Working draft — pending final legal review. This page describes how Glydr intends to operate during our Accra pilot. We are finalising review with Ghana-qualified counsel and will publish the signed-off version before the public launch. Questions or feedback: legal@glydr.africa.

1. The short version

You can ask us to delete your Glydr account and the personal data attached to it at any time. Send a request from the email address on your Glydr account, or tap the deletion link inside the Glydr mobile app (You → Account & privacy → Request account deletion). One round-trip with our data protection officer, then we delete what we can and tell you exactly what we had to keep, why, and for how long.

2. How to make the request

Email dpo@glydr.africa with the subject line Account deletion request. Include:

  • The phone number on the Glydr account (the one you sign in with).
  • The nameon the account (helps us match quickly when there’s more than one account on a number).
  • Optional: a short reason. You don’t have to give one; this just helps us improve the product.

Sending from the email address on file gives us strong evidence of identity. If you don’t have access to that email, we will ask you to verify via an OTP to the phone number on the account before we can act.

3. What gets deleted

Once your identity is verified, within 30 days we delete:

  • Your profile — name, email, phone number, profile photo, saved places (Home, Work, etc.).
  • Your account credentials — refresh tokens, push-notification tokens, sign-in history.
  • Your in-app messages — chat with drivers / passengers, support conversations.
  • Your device data — paired devices, last-seen locations, any non-anonymised analytics events.
  • Your saved payment instruments— Glydr doesn’t store full card numbers or mobile-money PINs, but we delete the Flutterwave tokenised references and any payout-account details we hold for drivers.

4. What we may have to keep (and for how long)

Some records have to be retained under Ghanaian law even after you delete the account. We keep only the minimum required, separately from the rest of your data, and we don’t use it for anything other than the legal obligation that requires it. Specifically:

RecordWhy retainedHow long
KYC verification record (Smile Identity job ID + verdict)AML / CFT obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044). Required so we can prove we performed identity verification at the time of onboarding.5 years after account closure.
Trip transaction records (booking, payment, payout, escrow release)Tax and audit obligations under the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) and Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915).6 years after the transaction date.
Safety incident records, SOS events, dispute recordsLimitation Act, 1972 (NRCD 54) — civil claims related to a Trip can be brought within this window; we must keep evidence to respond.6 years after the incident.
Aggregated, fully de-identified statistics (e.g. “trips per corridor per week”)Not personal data. Used for product and operations analysis. Cannot be linked back to you.Indefinitely.

For each retained record we keep the minimum field setrequired to meet the obligation — for example, the KYC retention record holds Smile Identity’s opaque job ID and the pass/fail verdict, not the original Ghana Card image or the selfie.

5. Timeline

  1. Day 0 — you send the request.
  2. Within 5 working days— we acknowledge, confirm your identity, and answer any questions you have about what will and won’t be deleted.
  3. Within 30 days— deletion is complete across our active systems. We email you when it’s done, with a short summary of what was deleted and what was retained (and for how long).
  4. Within 90 days — encrypted backups containing your data are rotated out on the normal backup schedule. After this point your data exists nowhere except the legally retained records described in section 4.

6. What happens to active Trips, bookings, and balances

We can’t delete the account if you have:

  • An active Trip (in progress, or scheduled to depart in <72 hours).
  • Funds in escrow waiting on Trip completion — for a Passenger, your seat fare; for a Driver, payouts pending Passenger confirmation.
  • A Glydr wallet balance you haven’t withdrawn (Drivers).
  • An open dispute or safety report.

We will email you back asking to resolve those first — usually cancel or complete the Trip, withdraw the wallet balance to your mobile money, and let any open dispute close out. Once those are clean, the deletion proceeds as in section 5.

7. What about my third-party data (Smile Identity, Flutterwave, Sentry, etc.)?

Some of your data is held by processors we use to run the platform. When you delete your Glydr account, we trigger the following downstream deletions on your behalf:

  • Smile Identity (KYC) — we instruct Smile to delete the captured Ghana Card image and selfie. We retain only the job ID and verdict for the AML period described above.
  • Flutterwave (payments) — we revoke any tokenised payment instruments stored against your account. Flutterwave separately retains transaction records for their own regulatory obligations as a Bank of Ghana licensed payment service provider.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (push) — we delete your registered device tokens; future pushes cannot reach you.
  • Sentry (crash reporting) — crash events captured before the deletion are already PII-scrubbed before they leave the app, so no targeted action is needed. Sentry ages out the events on a rolling 90-day basis.
  • Cloudflare R2 (file storage) — files you uploaded (KYC images, vehicle photos) are deleted from R2 in the same window as the account record.
  • mnotify (SMS / OTP) — mnotify only ever receives a phone number + one-time code; it never has a persistent account-level record of you to delete.

8. Can I delete the app and skip all this?

Yes — but uninstalling the Glydr app from your phone does not delete your account on our servers. Your profile, history, and any saved data stay until you either sign back in and stay active, or send the deletion request described above. If you want a clean break, use the deletion request flow.

9. Right to complain

You can complain to the Ghana Data Protection Commission if you think we have handled your deletion request improperly. Contact details and the complaints process are at dataprotection.org.gh.
